Active Assault – Learning Violence Survival Techniques

Active Assault – Learning Violence Survival Techniques

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security:
“Most incidents of an active shooter situation happen within 10 to 15 minutes and are over before Law Enforcement arrives on scene. The key to surviving these types of situations is mental and physical preparation.”

This roundtable training session is designed to educate the unarmed civilian on how to respond to this worst case scenario.

  • Attendees will be presented with successful and unsuccessful case studies, training videos and a presentation from an expert on workplace violence.
  • Attendees will leave with practical skills and knowledge that prepare their organization in dealing with an Active Shooter scenario.
  • Attendees will participate in a “hands-on” drill of an Active Shooter scenario at the end of the training session that will incorporate all of the tactics learned during the presentation.

Guest Speaker:
Basim Abu-Hamid has served the role of public emergency service provider since he became an Emergency Medical Technician in 1985 following his enlistment in the U.S.A.F. After completing paramedic school, he worked as an advanced life support paramedic on a 911 ambulance for Santa Clara County in California. He still maintains his paramedic certification to this day. In 1992 Basim joined the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety where he worked for 12 years as a full-time police officer/firefighter. The city of Sunnyvale provides both police and fire services and Basim was certified as a police officer and firefighter while also maintaining his paramedic certification. At Sunnyvale he worked specialty assignments which included Field Training Officer (FTO), Hostage Negotiator and Gang Task Force in the Patrol Division and Aerial Truck Operator/Firefighter/Engineer and EMS instructor in the Fire Division.

In 2004, Basim went to work for the Dept. of Defense (D.O.D.-Dept. of the Army) as an overseas (E.M.E.A.) counter-terrorism consultant because of the demand for various skill sets following 9/11. He also has worked overseas in various assignments as a team leader in kidnap/ransom consulting and executive and VIP protection. He has done Risk Assessments domestically and internationally for various vertical markets and has returned to various sites to conduct probe/penetration tests for vulnerabilities.
